Pedro Lopes Ferreira, PhD, Applied Mathematics, is Aggregated Professor of Health Economics at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He is the Director of the Centre for Health Studies and Research of the Coimbra University (CEISUC) and Co-ordinator of the Master’s Programme in Health Management and Health Economics of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and of the Post-graduate Course on Health Organization Economics and Management. Since 2006 he has been the coordinator of the Portuguese Observatory on Health Systems and a founding member since its creation in the year 2000. From 2001 to 2003 he was Deputy Director of the Ministry of Health’s Institute for Quality in Health and, from 1997 to 2000, he was the Coordinator of the Agency for Health Services Contracting of the Center Region of Portugal. In the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, he was Dean between 2004 and 2006. He has been involved in health states and quality of life projects (PRISMA; IMPROVE; EUROPEP; ECHHO; ERGHO) and he is responsible for the cultural adaptation and validation of several Portuguese versions of health outcomes and PRO instruments. Currently he is co-chair of the Iberoamerican Group of the International Society for Quality of Life Research.
